The Perfect Elderly Parent Gift

Hey there, Adult Child of Aging Parents: Are you up to your neck in the search for that one special gift for your elderly parent? And, have you been wandering through stores and the internet marketplace in a sort of midlife fog, searching for anything that will work? Well, do I have the perfect gift for you!

In fact, not only do I have the perfect gift . . . I have the perfect gift in several sizes (i.e., You get to choose how much you want to spend and how you want it wrapped and delivered.) Even better, it's going to cost you next to nothing unless you want it to - financially speaking! That's right. Money-wise, you're home free - pretty much.

Of course, there IS a cost involved. (Come on, you knew there would be.) The cost is your time. But then, as I said already, you get to decide just how much you want to "spend" . . . how much of your precious time you want to share . . . as your gift to your parents.

And I realize time is money, so I'm giving you several options . . each a little more costly. This is really a totally great gift! Have I said enough to peak your interest? Okay. Here it is.

. . . . Give them the Gift of a Book . . . as read by YOU

You say your aging or elderly parents read fine on their own? Are you sure? And, even if they do, so what?! Tired eyes appreciate the break.

This is something you can do in person, over the phone, by recording your own voice, or with a simple purchase. It's an act of connection, and one they'll more than likely truly enjoy.

Is there something your elderly mother would love to read if she only could? Is your aging father plagued with medical problems that make it too difficult to focus on small print? Well, there's your gift. Give them the gift of the books they've been missing.

Let me break this down into several options. You'll probably come up with even more, but here's a start, going from most costly (in terms of your time involvement) to least, and also going from least expensive (in terms of high finance) to most.

Give your elderly parent their favorite book - or a book they'd love to read:

1. As read by YOU. Give them the gift of your promise to visit them in person or on the phone - on whatever schedule you set - and read that book to them from cover to cover . . maybe once . . maybe twice . . maybe move on to another book and another and another. Just having you there, giving of yourself to read to them will open up all kinds of avenues for sharing and getting to know each other at a deeper level.

2. As recorded by you. Maybe you can't possibly set a schedule for visiting with your aging parent. That's okay. You can, however find the time throughout the new year to read one or several books to them from wherever you are if you read them into your hand-held recorder or computer. Just record them - chapter by chapter if you prefer - and give or send those recordings to your parents. As difficult as it might be for you to imagine, there's probably nothing your elderly mother or father would enjoy more than the sound of your voice! And with recordings, they can listen whenever and as often as they like. You don't have to be there for the gift to keep giving.

3. Enlarged with the help of a Kindle. This is a little less personal, but it's no less a gift. If your aging parent is an avid reader - and able to read for themselves - but finds reading to be a real struggle because of waning eyesight, this is the perfect gift. The Kindle is a hand-held reading device that delivers literally thousands of books in large print. It isn't cheap, but what the Kindle gives back more than makes up for the initial expense. It's an incredible little beast of a machine! Check it out at amazon.com, and see if it isn't the gift you've been looking for.

There you go. Three new possibilities for solving your shopper's dilemma. I hope one of these fits your needs, because I guarantee that each would be most thankfully received should you decide to give it to your aging or elderly parent.

4 Planning Considerations For Making Your New Fundraiser Profitable

Fundraising has been going on for many years and will continue as a way for youth sports leagues, schools, churches, cheerleaders and many other groups to generate funds for numerous causes. When trying to organize a successful new fundraiser you should have a few keys things in mind.

Event

Choose a type of event that coincides with your type of group and your fundraising goals. If all you are wanting to accomplish with any new fundraiser that you are planning is to raise just a few hundred dollars, then the cost should be fairly low. In this case a car wash, a soccer-thon, or other simple fundraising event will do. If on the other hand you need to raise thousands of dollars for a senior trip you might need to consider fundraisers such as teddy bear fundraisers, cookie dough fundraisers, or any number of other unique fundraising ideas. When the needs are larger, it may be time to consider raising money over a few different programs and times of the year. Your specific needs will dictate the type of new fundraiser idea you should be considering.

Volunteers

Never over look the hidden talents or things that might be of interest to your group. For instance, you would not want to ask the football players to do a teddy bear fundraiser. While that might be a unique fundraiser, you probably will not have a huge sale simply because those boys are not going to be that enthused about them. Now, if what you are planning is a cheerleader fundraiser, or a new fundraiser for little kids or an all girl group, then a teddy bear fundraiser should work just fine.

Choosing The Right Fundraising Product

After first taking into consideration the interest of your volunteer force, you will also want to consider the attractiveness of your fundraising product itself. Right now, in America, the number one product in fundraising is frozen food, specifically frozen cookie dough. Today there are scores of frozen cookie dough brands available for fundraising, but without a doubt the top brands are Otis Spunkmeyer and Chippery cookie dough.

Once a frozen product has been sold in your neighborhood however, you are forced to find a new fundraiser that will be "the next best thing. This is where it gets sort of interesting. I could fill a couple of hundred pages on this subject alone. There are so many things that must be considered when trying to come up with this "new fundraiser." Things like the type of group you have, the age range of your group, the time of year. The list could go on. There are products however that have stood the test of time and consistently make groups the money they need. There are in fact some new fundraiser products that I can see will be giving frozen products a push off of the mountain top.

Some things have stood the test of time like Christmas wrap, gift items, candles and various food products. There are some new fundraisers like teddy bear fundraisers and Interstate Batteries that are making a showing now to displace the old tried and true fundraisers.

Given that the scope of this article does not include how to properly choose that new fundraiser, I would simply say at this point that it would be wise to consult a professional fundraising company for that advice.

Don't Let Your Ego Get In The Way

In the quest for new fundraiser ideas, it is important to keep in mind that there are some things that you may initially think will or will not work. It is human nature to pick the product for our new fundraiser based on our own personal taste. The thought process goes, I would not buy that product line so it must be a loser of a fundraiser. If this were the sole basis of what works in the real world, there would be no Starbucks. I hate coffee! There would also be a Sears on every corner and whoever thought that putting a retractable wheel in the bottom of a shoe would be a big deal?

In the quest for new fundraiser ideas there are many options and considerations in choosing the right fundraising product for your group. The best option is to get out of the way and simply go with the things that work.

Homemade Anniversary Gift Ideas

The celebration of wedding anniversary is one way of a couple to express their affection to one another. It's one of the most important events for a husband and wife who has bind together us one. For instance, your parents also celebrate their wedding anniversary every year, and as this event comes, you always think of a perfect gift for them. So if you want to give them a gift that is something unique and valuable, then you need to be familiar with some homemade anniversary gift ideas. A very popular homemade gift is to portray a pose that was created through a full-sized pencil sketch and was framed in white plywood or in a bamboo.

To make your anniversary gift more meaningful to your parents, you should give them something that has sentimental values. You could probably present to them a full-sized poster or an enlarge photograph of their favorite pets, their first house, and or their favorite photo together. In addition to homemade anniversary gift ideas, the best possible gifts are some kind of traditional. Anniversary celebration every year has a specific symbol, so you can give them a gift according to their theme. Say, for their first anniversary, the customary gift is cotton, for the second anniversary is paper, and leather for the third year, etc. Based from their each year theme, you can be creative in making something that is exceptional and meaningful to them.

In your mind you have lots of homemade anniversary gift ideas, it was just that you can't quickly decide on what will be the best and the most precious for them. How about filling a glass ball with liquid such as water, then make two human toys together and put them inside the glass ball then place it on the sand. If you can picture the gift, it's just like the couple has conducted their wedding under water. So can add some corals, toy fish, plastic green grass, or stone at the sphere glass so it will be looked like an under the sea wedding. Definitely that could be an enjoyable gift and is very unique. No one could ever imagine receiving such wonderful and colorful sphere glass.

You may have heard from your friends and have read from different articles some homemade anniversary gift ideas, so you can have several options to choose from, then if possible that you can select something that could make the couple excited, do it as you wish. But keep in mind that regardless of the kind of gift you choose, the most meaningful and valuable gift that you can give to your love ones are those that come from the heart. That could definitely not the best, but a perfect gift that you can present.

Great Ways to Donate Used Stuffed Animals

Every year around Christmas a bunch of motorcycle clubs get together and do what's called a "Toy Run" where they go around collecting toys and ask people to donate used stuffed animals to kids who have nothing, or may not get anything for Christmas to bring them hope, and Christmas cheer. What a great scene this is, often over 600 plus men and women on Harley's with big sacks of toys, all headed to various shelters, orphanages, and churches across the country to deliver these toys, often dressed in Santa decorated helmets and gear!

When you want to donate used stuffed animals there are some easy ways to do this. Often you will find big barrels in shopping centers, grocery stores, toy stores and other various places asking for your used toys and stuffed animals. A lot of people choose to donate used stuffed animals, and I think the kids love these the most.

When we walk into a toy store, a hallmark store, a Disney store, or even a grocery store these days you will see stuffed animal toys lacing the walls of the place either as you first walk in, in the display windows, or back near all the soft toys. You will see stuffed animals for sale but also often a box where you can donate used stuffed animals in.

Many parents are finding this a good idea as they can teach their children to donate used stuffed animals they don't want and give to a good cause at the same time. Usually when my kids want a new stuffed animal, because they have so many I tell them they can have one if they donate one of their old ones.

This recycling of a sort teaches kids to give a little (donate used stuffed animals they no longer play with) and receive a little (get a new one) and at the same time keeps their stuffed animal population under control! Of course there are many times when the child will get a stuffed animal without having to give one up too.

Stuffed animals are not only a well loved toy for kids but they have become the gift of choice for a lot of occasions. Many people win a lot of these during the state fair seasons and often tire of looking at them after a few weeks. This is a perfect opportunity to donate used stuffed animals, even those you win at the fair to the many available charities that need them.

Often times many of these stuffed animals although still new and in great shape are buried beneath all the newer ones never to be seen again unless you do a power spring cleaning and reorganizing of the room. I've cleaned my kids rooms while they were in school only to find sometimes 30-60 stuffed animals that were hidden for over a year (under 100 more!)! I often donate used stuffed animals to charity and the kids never miss them, in fact I think if they saw them they wouldn't' recognize them anymore!

At this point you should put those toys to a good cause - donate used stuffed animals to fire houses, and many other great organizations that give scared kids a cuddly teddy bear or a soft collector stuffed animal to make them feel safe and to help distract their mind to a better place.
